'We Belong Together' features landmarks from each area, so locals are able to recognise all the different locations that Ray White Keatley can service.

I kept the graphics simple with the only text being 'Ray White Keatley - Mount Gambier | Hamilton | Casterton' followed by the website at the end. I tried a couple of different endings but found that the simpler it was, the more powerful it was. The music track is not your typical 'corporate film' soundtrack, it was chosen specifically as it fits perfectly with their 'relationship building' marketing strategy. I also produced the film in a way that makes it easy to replace certain scenes to accommodate for staff changes, so the film can always be updated and kept relevant.

Overall this film has summed up the essence of Ray White Keatley and is a fantastic promotional tool for them. This business luncheon is a bi-annual event founded by the late Barry Maney OAM to raise funds for ac.care to help prevent homelessness in our community. The event has raised a phenomenal amount of funds and awareness since it began 3 luncheons ago, in 2012. With a committee of just 4 members I feel very privileged to be joining their power-team to help continue their amazing work at the 2018 luncheon. The funds raised help ac.care prevent homelessness in our community. An example was the creation of a new program, TED (Tenancy Education Program), which went on to win the state award for the 2017 Australian Housing Institute Awards. The TED program teaches people how to budget, prepare for job interviews and meet with local property managers and has made a difference with homeless numbers in our community dropping this year.

Luncheon Committee (from left): Barry Stafford, Astyn Reid, Di Ind, Anne Hinkly-Tyler, Robin Reid.

Each luncheon welcomes a different key note speaker and each year the speaker has been a major attraction to the business lunch. Next year will be no exception with Mr Tim Guest, a self-made millionaire who was retired in his late 20s and has recently appeared on television in the SBS documentary ‘Filthy Rich and Homeless’ being the 2018 guest speaker.

Mr Guest now works as a financial educator promoting financial literacy and education. He is also a committed philanthropist. In ‘Filthy Rich and Homeless’ Mr Guest slept on the streets to experience being homeless. This furthered his understanding of the impact it has on an individual and what can be done to help.

“It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, both physically, mentally and emotionally, …and the most valuable. Not because I enjoyed it, but because of what I discovered about people who I had previously largely ignored. I have come to admire many as some of the most generous, resourceful and inspiring people I have ever met” said Mr Guest.

One of the ac.care services that was funded by the luncheons went on to win a State award for the 2017 Australasian Housing Institute. This service, the Tenancy Education program (TED) is a homelessness prevention strategy, teaching people how to budget, prepare for job interviews, maintain a home and learn from Housing SA and local property agents. Funds have also been used to obtain additional properties to temporarily house families whilst ac.care staff work with them to find safe and more stable accommodation. They also work to assist the family with other issues that may be going on for them.

“Since the first 2012 luncheon businesses and community have come together to support people experiencing homelessness. We have raised over $210,000, all of which has remained in our community with local charity ac.care. The funds have assisted over 850 local people, including children from becoming homeless and securing safe and stable accommodation” said Barry Stafford, Chairman Support Homeless People Luncheon committee.

“There are four equally important outcomes of the luncheon” continued Barry. “These are the funds raised, the awareness of why people can become homeless and available supports, the learnings from key note business speakers and the support ac.care receives after the luncheon from business and community leaders exploring other ways to help.”

The committee welcomes Ms Astyn Reid from Kinship Productions. Astyn has been invited onto the committee to bring her youthful energy and professional story-telling skills to help raise awareness, not only of the event but the reasons for homelessness in our community.

“After attending the 2016 Homelessness Luncheon and feeling the astounding compassion and energy in the room, I wanted to help ac.care and support this great cause in some way. It really is remarkable what this small committee of four have achieved, and the support our community has shown is unlike any other in Australia. The luncheons aren’t only about the funds raised on the day, but the ongoing support from local businesses. Whether that is from a donation of goods, staff time or services, we are all able to help in some way. I look forward to using my filmmaking and story-telling skills to continue raising awareness and help make a difference to homelessness in our community.”

The next Support Homeless People Luncheon will be on Friday 13th April 2018 at The Barn Palais, Mount Gambier. Tickets are $100 per person or sold in tables of 10 for $1000 and can be purchased by contacting Barry Stafford at Barry Maney Group on (08) 8721 3400.

Ghost Mushrooms - A Magical Experience

I recently had the privilege of working with Forestry SA, and an extremely talented and respected photographer, Ockert Le Roux on a very exciting project promoting our local 'Ghost Mushroom Lane'.These glow in the dark mushrooms are a natural phenomenon and a bucket list experience for many. By daylight they are a ghostly white with a hint of purple, but come nightfall, they glow a luminescent green bright enough to read the page of a book.

This magical experience has been generously put together by Forestry SA, One-Forty-One Plantations, Tourism Mount Gambier and The Lady Nelson Visitor and Discovery Centre. This small team hurriedly decided to put the trails together a few months ago as the mushrooms season only runs for a few weeks a year, and it had already began. On opening weekend they reported over 1000 cars through the plantation. Over the coming weeks of the Mushrooms short season they drew nearly 20,000 visitors to the site!

Paula McManus has put together a fantastic report of her experience at weekendnotes.com. She says:

"The bioluminescent glow is caused by a chemical reaction between the fungal enzymes and oxygen. The fungi was first officially documented in Australia in 1842 by Scottish naturalist James Drummond in Perth, Western Australia. The early settlers and indigenous people knew they existed long before James Drummond wrote about them. The glowing fungi was unusual and foreign to them and they were terrified at the sight. Horses and cattle were spooked by them too. The Aboriginal people believed that some mushrooms and toadstools are fallen stars. Falling stars were seen as evil magic in some tribes and many were fearful of them and would call the glow in the dark fungi "Chinga"- their name for a spirit."

For more on the Mushrooms and Paula's experience you can check out her blog post here.

There have been countless photographs, reviews, social media posts and TV segments shared since the tour opened and news of this phenomenon has spread like wildfire, so nearing the end of the season Forestry SA approached me with ideas to turn the experience into a promotional film. Since I hadn't been able to get out there yet I was very excited to get to play around with this amazing sight and it was definitely one of my favourite films to produce. Big thanks to Troy and his family for coming along to act in our film. Troy is one of the amazing team members who have put this experience together.

Unfortunately you will need to wait until later in the year/early next year for the film to be released, but the only thing better than the film and all the amazing photographs going around is to see these magical fungi for yourself. Ghost Mushroom Season varies depending on weather but is generally over May/June, so book your holidays to the Limestone Coast and we will see you out at the trails next year!

Here is one sneaky frame from the film...

The Short Film - Jessie + Sam

Jessie and Sam's wedding day oozed family and tradition in this beautiful Chinese ceremony. The Jacob sisters have all been married within the last 14 months and I am so honoured to have been invited along to capture all three!

While Kate and Belinda's weddings were set in the beachside town of Robe, SA, Tess and Todd's wedding day was set on the Jacob's stunning family property in Naracoorte, South Australia. As the sisters said in their speech, "when Tess and Todd decided they wanted a 'relaxed, stress-free wedding on the farm we were all relieved. Yep, this simple wedding involved only 135 days of constant sprinkler changing, fertilising the law, installation of a new bridge at the creek crossing, fresh gravel for the driveway, erection of a new fence around the garden, a new coat of paint (OK, 3 coats) for the house, removal of several trees and shrubs, purchase of a truck load of new shrubs to replace said removed trees and shrubs, mulch for the garden, and then just a week of lawn mowing, trimming, raking, slashing, and more mowing in the lead up to today. Oh and of course the marquee set up....I'm so glad that they wanted this relaxed wedding and we didn't have to go through the 2 days of stress setting up for ours again....' 😂 But all the hard work definitely paid off and everybody appreciated just how stunning the property looked for Tess and Todd's wedding.

Words can't describe how special it feels to be included in all three sisters weddings. Thank you Tess and Todd, and the rest of the clan for inviting me along to your weddings! I will miss celebrating with your family!

No wind or rain was dampening the spirit of this I had never considered myself 'successful'...that's what I was working towards...

I started writing a reply email explaining that I didn't think I was the right person for the story, but before hitting 'send', I paused, and actually thought about what I considered 'success' to be. Was it money? Was it completing so many films per year, or employing so many staff? Or was it happiness? In the end I realised that to me, success purely means that you are working towards your personal goals, whether they be financial, or philanthropic. There will always be new goals in business but I don’t think you have to reach them before you can consider yourself successful, as long as you are working towards what you want and most importantly, enjoying your life, then I consider you successful. I had never before thought of myself as successful but it was then that I realised I actually was. I am able to help other families preserve their memories just by doing what I love, which is my goal. Hearing the comments from these families, especially after someone has passed away makes me feel like I am making a difference and I know from Nanna’s video how special they are.

I can't thank Caitlin enough for making me actually stop and think about 'success', which in turn actually made me feel successful for the first time.

Allow Me to Introduce Myself

Hello! Thank you for visiting my site! I am very excited to be entering this new chapter with Kinship Productions and would love for you to join me on the ride.

It has always been my dream to help other families capture their history and preserve the memories of their loved ones.

Film has always been a hobby of mine, but it wasn't until I started studying Media at RMIT, that I realised I could actually turn my hobby into a career (which is strange, as both my parents worked in the TV industry!). I remember my Dad used to put together 'birthday videos' for our family friends on their milestone birthdays. I used to go up to the TV station at night and sit with him while he edited for hours. My first 'film' was a birthday video for Dad for his 45th birthday. I spent months going through photos and home video, teaching myself how to use video editing software and working out how to export the film onto a VHS tape, and I had an absolute ball. I had no training in film making, but looking back I can see that watching over Dad's shoulder must have taught me something about story telling and timing in the edit.

Fast forward a few (9) years and I was in my last year of Media studies at RMIT in Melbourne. My grandmother was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given 6 months. I went home to visit her with my camera and just started asking questions. We sat in her lounge for an afternoon and she told me little stories that even her children had never heard before. Not because they were secrets, but because no body had ever actually asked. Little things like her first kiss, her favourite memory of her kids, a memory that always makes her smile, any regrets she had in her life... When Nanna passed we played her little film at her funeral. As she got quite sick towards the end it was nice for people to hear her laugh, and to leave with a healthy, happy memory of Nanna. But more importantly than this, I now have Nanna's essence captured on film. It was a while after her passing until I watched the film again, and I was shocked by how many little things I had forgotten. Her voice, her laugh, her mannerisms when she told a story, the way she walked and the way she said 'ooh' before she answered your questions. I now watch her film quite regularly and it brings a smile to my face every time. It is nice to know that future generations will get to know a little piece of her and she can tell them her stories. I only wish I had one of my Pa who died when I was 6 months. Everyone says how similar Dad and Pa were, and I only wish I could see it myself.

After Nanna's funeral people were commenting on the film and requesting one of their parents and family members. It was then that I realised I could combine my passion of filmmaking with my love of family history and preserving peoples memories, so I began 'Kinship Productions' and I love that I can now help other families pass on their loved ones memories.
